An asteroid has just grazed the Earth

An asteroid the size of three football fields that just flew over Earth on the morning of February 18, The Gurdian reported.

The asteroid named 2000 EM26 has flown across Earth at a distance of 3.3 million km, about 8.8 times the distance from Earth to the moon at around 9:00 am February 18 in Vietnam.

Scientists believe that the 2000 EM26 asteroid will not cause any harm to the earth. However, it is classified as an object close to Earth (NEO) capable of causing significant harm if it hits the earth.

According to the amount of scientists, this asteroid flies at 27,000mph (43.4 thousand km / h) and is about 270m long.

2000 EM26 asteroid approached the earth almost exactly one year after the meteorite explosion in Chelyabinsk, Russia on February 15 last year.

At this time last year, a meteorite with a length of 17m, which was more than 10 thousand tons with an estimated energy equivalent to 20 atomic bombs, exploded in the sky of Russia.

The meteorite explosion caused thousands of buildings to be damaged, many injured by broken glass, however, fortunately no one died.

Dr Bob Berman, an astronomer from Slooh, where live reports of the asteroid's 2000 EM26 flight route said: 'Every century, unexplored asteroids hit their earth. I have caused as much damage as we saw on June 20, 1908 and February 15 last year. '

'Every few centuries, a giant asteroid hits the earth again. Luckily, collision points are ocean or deserted lands like Antarctica. However, the risks remain. Therefore, close monitoring of all objects near the earth like 2000 EM26 as well as planning their deflection is essential , 'Bob added.
