Mars and Earth will be the closest distance in more than a decade

According to NASA's disclosure, Earth residents will just need to look up to the sky to witness a rare encounter when Earth is closest to Mars in the last 15 years.

The Weather Channel said July will be the best in the past 15 years, creating opportunities for astronomers to see this rare sight.

The reason is that Earth will travel between Mars and the Sun and is closest to the red planet on July 31 - estimated at only 35.8 million miles (more than 57 million kilometers). Then we can see Mars from Earth with the naked eye, and use telescopes if we want to look really clear.

A phenomenon called 'perihelic opposition' (the perihelic summit) is the reason for this special event. Simply put, it is when the Earth passes straight between Mars and the Sun. This phenomenon occurs every two years but to coincide with the time when Mars is closest to the Sun, according to NASA, this is a rare phenomenon that occurs only every 15 to 17 years.
