In the photos shared on social networks, Venus appears clear and very bright on the right side of the Moon. Some people may even see Mars lying on the left side of the Moon with a lighter brightness than Venus.
"The sky is clear in Manchester when Mars, the Moon and Venus are aligned," said Vince Lee, a citizen sharing on social networks.
Venus is the second planet in the solar system. Its surface is covered with thick cloud containing sulfuric acid. In addition, Venus is the second brightest object in the night sky, behind the Moon.
According to EarthSky, January is a good observation time for astronomers, when they can see Venus and Mars when they look west at sunset. The other three planets, Jupiter, Mercury and Saturn will also shine brightly a few hours before dawn.
