Mexico invented eco-cement made from glass chips and garbage
Scientists at the Center for Higher Research (Cinvestav) in the state of Coahuila, Mexico, have announced the successful production of a cement by recycling glass and urban waste.
Cinvestav Research Center.
Cinvestav's announcement said that the advantage of new inventions is that it can take advantage of all kinds of glass waste collected , and the production process emits less CO2 into the atmosphere.
Glass is washed, dried, crushed, rolled into powder and mixed with limestone. The mixture is then activated by compounds of alkali metal, to turn into a plastic compound like normal cement mixed with water, before hardening.
The team confirmed that after hardening, this type of cement has superior mechanical characteristics similar to that of concrete used to produce concrete. Therefore, the market share that the inventors consider to be the most suitable to use this new product is the production of precast concrete products.
The representative said that Cinvestav will be a new alternative for Portland - the most popular cement in the current construction industry with the advantage of durability but high level of pollution due to the production process. much CO2 emissions.
