Microsoft launched Visual Studio 2008
Microsoft has just officially introduced and announced the name of the next Visual Studio version code. Accordingly, Visual Studio 2008 is codenamed "Orcas" and will be released Beta 2 later this summer.
Mr. C. Joe Marini - Microsoft Product Manager - said the release of Visual Studio 2008 this summer will include the Visual Studio Shell feature.
Visual Studio Shell allows application developers to build and develop their own custom tools on the Visual Studio IDE platform.
Features can operate in two states. The first is Integrated Mode, which allows application developers to build an integrated programming language with Visual Studio. In Isolated Mode, the developer will rely on the Visual Studio platform to build custom tools.
Microsoft claims the Visual Studio Shell technology will be completely free.
Besides introducing Visual Studio 2008, Microsoft also released a new version of the SQL Server 2008 version of the database application. Interested readers can download the application version here.
