Scientists have discovered many interesting things about the sex of bonono monkeys - primates are considered to be the closest relatives of humans.
Bonono monkeys are often referred to as " indiscriminate sex gorillas ". In this monkey species, females use sex for many purposes: to reduce stress, resolve conflict and even to form female alliances to fight males.
In recent observations of this primate, a research team from the University of St Andrews (UK) found that the female monkey used a cry to " promote their festivals " .
Screaming during lovemaking is a relatively common behavior among primates. However, in addition to screaming while meeting with male monkeys, the bonono also made loud noises while being "gay" with another female monkey.
Bonono monkeys maintain strong relationships between female monkeys and they are often sexually related. " Making loud noises is an extension of the relationship between female monkeys and this monkey, " said Dr. Zanna Clay, who led the study.
Researchers describe this phenomenon as a "appropriation" that represents fertility. " The monkeys emitted cries when they met, similar to the way sex between males and females is, " Ms Clay said.
Female monkeys who are " loud " when they meet a partner "play an important role in the herd". Dr Clay said: "The monkeys have sex with all subjects, but they only promote when sex with a female monkey holds a higher position in the herd ."
However, when female monkeys show signs of estrus, they will scream more when " sex " with male monkeys. Dr. Clay explained: " It shows that, in terms of reproductive issues, screams of lovemaking are used more traditionally ."
