Recently, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the United Nations Development Program said that according to the survey results of biologists, from 1996 to now, there are 152 rare and precious animal and plant species in our country. are in danger of extinction; notably, two-horn rhino, tapir, otter civet, star deer, original carp, and alligator . hardly exist in nature but only a few individuals.

One of the reasons is that due to environmental pollution, deforestation, forest fire is increasing in severity.

Currently, there are 126 nature conservation areas, with a total area of over 2.5 million hectares, including landscape protection forests, national parks, species conservation areas and habitats and reserves. nature . increased by 28% compared to before Vietnam joined the International Convention on Biodiversity in 1994.

However, according to environmental experts: although the rate of investment in biodiversity conservation projects in Vietnam each year accounts for 20-30% of the funding in the environmental field, but the quality of protection not high.

In order to prevent biodiversity degradation, especially to protect rare and endangered flora and fauna, strong authorities in protected areas need to be renewed to manage the system. system, maintain the core characteristics for biodiversity conservation areas.
