Multi-purpose bed for paralyzed people

A 'barefoot engineer' in Vinh Phuc province has successfully built a convenient mobile bed for paralyzed people. The bed can be adjusted in a variety of positions such as sitting, lying and legs of patients can also stretch comfortably.

Mr. Le Van Phuong (Mau Lam village, Khai Quang ward, Vinh Yen town, Vinh Phuc province) is the father of this bed. Products are selected by Vinh Phuc Association of Science and Technology Association (LHH) to attend the National Technical Innovation Contest in 2009-2010.

Ideas from compassion

Since the introduction of the versatile bed, especially when the product was awarded by Vinh Phuc LH three prizes for the province's Technological Innovation Contest in 2008-2009, Mr. Phuong suddenly became famous. At the beginning of Mau Lam village, asked Mr. Phuong and the versatile bed, everyone knew.
.
This 'inventor' confided that since his childhood, he witnessed his mother struggling to take care of her unmoving grandmother in a cramped, dimly lit room and rarely interacting with her children and grandchildren. He himself had many hard days to take care of his father with the same situation. When he grew up, he witnessed many cases of accidents, he had to lie motionless waiting for his relatives to take care of him, and many miserable lives, illnesses published in the press made him unable to stop. They all have pain and sadness when they have to lie in one place, depend on others . He wishes to do something to help them lessen their pain and live happily. The idea of a versatile bed came from that situation.

However, it was not until 2006 that after many times of drawing and painting, Mr. Phuong imagined the shape and design of the bed. This bed is designed like a large recliner, about 1.2m wide, can be moved on wheels, at the end of the bed there are horizontal wooden panels to create a quite convenient dining table.

Sitting in the car, Mr. Phuong circled to the back, pushed the brake, the backrest slowly leaned down, the footrest also gradually lifted up to the bed nearly 2m long. Mr. Phuong said that when changing into a bed, relatives can sit and visit, encourage and help the patients eat and clean.

Under the bed, Mr. Phuong designed the pots to serve the needs of personal hygiene for patients. Parts of recliner, seat cushion . can be removed for easy cleaning.

Keep improving

Mr. Phuong said that after successfully manufacturing this bed, he has received many mass production offers and he is continuing to research and improve to make it more convenient for users. For example, the electric wheel controller must be redesigned so that patients can move on their own. According to him, the ability of patients to move on their own will help them become closer to their relatives and more comfortable in their activities.

Mr. Pham Huy Thuy, Vice President of Vinh Phuc University commented that the bed is not only useful for paralyzed patients but also helps a lot for wounded soldiers and disabled people. According to Mr. Phuong, products submitted to the contest are expected to receive comments and evaluations of experts to continue to improve and improve. He hoped to complete the bed to serve a large number of people.
