The old man invented the exclusive vehicle for the paralyzed

Creation of a walker, a safe standing exercise for paralyzed people, Mr. Kho helped poor patients with unfortunate accidents have the opportunity to restore function.

Walkers, stand for people with disasters

In the small house located at the end of Giang Van Minh street (Hoa Thuan Tay ward, Hai Chau, Da Nang), Mr. Nguyen Duy Tru (80 years old) with white silver hair, ample tortoise skin fixed the walker, Safe stand for paralyzed people. Seeing guests come, he rested his hands and smiled.

Sad face, Mr. recall recalled in the 90s, his wife suffered a stroke, paralyzed the left side. Loving his wife, he devoted all his time to the rehabilitation and orthopedic center with the hope that she could walk.

When he came to the treatment center, he found that the instruments used for patients were very few, because they mainly imported from abroad, the car height was fixed, so it was inconvenient for the practitioner. Tools for walking and standing exercises are two different types, making it difficult for patients to move. Patients who suffer from knee fatigue cannot sit down and relax easily when there is no supportive relatives.

"Sometimes when I see my wife fall, I have to suffer while I practice, but it hurts so much. I just wish I could bear a part of my wife's pain at that time , " he said. Many nights wondering "what to do to help his wife can practice walking at home but effectively" , he decided the idea of creating a walker, standing safely for the paralyzed into reality.

His whole house then turned into a mechanical manufacturing workshop, all steel frames, screws with old pumps . Many times failed, his intentions fell into deadlock. Once he happened to look at his niece sitting on a round walker. After walking for a while, the baby's leg fatigue sat down and rested."I suddenly thought that people with complications were like children who had to practice standing and walking step by step. All the impasse was allowed, I rushed home and started doing it right away," he said.

In 2001 the walker, a safe stand for paralyzed people was born. Designed based on the principle of children's walkers, combined with crutches of disabled people, vehicles can both move and stand still, helping patients to use both standing functions and practice.

The structure is very solid, the height is fixed at 0.8m, the rear has the height adjustment part of the patient with a hand pump, a pair of adjustable crutches are mounted on the sides of the upper ring to help the person with the range high stature. The car has two big round iron rings, the upper ring has a diameter of 0.43m, attached to a hammock to allow the patient to rest while tired. The lower ring is 0.8m in diameter with 6 multi-directional wheels with brakes. In front of two rounds, there are opening and closing sections, making doors for patients to enter and exit the car.

A special feature of the car lies in the steam lift system, when it is necessary to use the pump to lift the patient up, and to discharge the steam valve to lower the patient. There is also a safety belt to ensure the patient does not fall forward or backward, creating stability and certainty for the vehicle and patient safety.

Initially he loaned to those paralyzed. Seeing efficiency, many people come to order. Currently, each car costs 3.8 million."Thinking about my wife, I was sad because I couldn't see her using her own hand-made car," the sad man said.

Thanks to his unique creation, Mr. Vo Duy Tru was granted a patent for invention by the National Office of Intellectual Property (Ministry of Science and Technology) on April 19, 2010.

In the near future, Mr. Kho intends to research to reduce the car from 0.8m to 0.4m, to facilitate the use and transport of vehicles when necessary."Hopefully in the near future the cars will be mass produced to help the sick, especially the poor patients have the opportunity to use to restore function effectively" , Mr. Kho shared .
