'Mysterious ghost city' reappears in the middle of the lake

Residents of Huai'an City, China are astonished to see the giant illusion of a "ghost city" appearing above the horizon.

The mysterious ghost town shows up in the afternoon, on Hongze Lake in Jiangsu Province, east China, the Daily Mail reports from the local press.

Ancient Chinese houses with curved roofs, trees and a giant wind turbine are part of the bizarre images that appear through the mist above the lake. In addition, there is nothing unusual in the sky in other areas at the lake.

Curious people rushed here to witness the extraordinary scene, lasting about half an hour at the southern and western part of Hongze Lake, the newspaper reported in Jiangsu . Hongze is currently the fourth largest freshwater lake in China, covering an area of ​​2,069 square kilometers.

One of the witnesses - photographer Chen Kai told Modern Express newspaper that he discovered the ghost town after a rain.

Chen said a series of old Chinese houses , including city walls, residential buildings and octagonal tower gates. The photographer also said that it was not possible to find the original area, like the illusion he recorded.

Many people believe that the image of the mysterious ghost city is illusion - a form of hallucination commonly seen in wet weather.

The director of Hongze Lake Museum is Pei said, such illusions appeared in the region in the 1950s and 1960s, according to the city's archives. The illusion that appeared on August 4 was one of the best ever recorded in this area.
