Mysterious place to see crocodiles like gods

At this place, giant crocodiles are not hated cold-blooded animals, nor are they haunting obsessions for humans. In contrast, this reptile is honored as gods.

Crocodile may be one of the most dangerous predators in the world, but at Bazoule , a small village in Burkina Faso, it is not uncommon to see someone riding on a giant crocodile's back. Because here, the crocodile has a mysterious connection with the local people.

The people of Bazoule shared their water with over 100 giant crocodiles.

They considered it completely normal and felt lucky to be living with crocodiles.

"We knew crocodiles from small, swimming and doing other things with them. We could be in close contact, sitting and even lying on the crocodile's back. They were sacred crocodiles, would do not harm anyone, " said Pierre Kabore, a Bazoule villager.

According to local legend, the people of Bazoule village have a close relationship with alligators since the 15th century.

At that time, Bazoule village fell into prolonged drought, people lived extremely miserable and hungry.
Luckily, while thinking that everyone in the village would die, a crocodile came and led the women to a mysterious pond. Thanks to that, the villagers are refreshed and revived in the village.

Since then, every year, Bazoule villagers will hold a celebration called the Koom Lakre to celebrate and thank the crocodiles. During the celebration, villagers voluntarily provide meat for crocodiles, in return for their desire to have good health, good harvest and prosperity.

"Crocodile is regarded as a representative of our ancestors' soul. If a crocodile dies, it will be held as a funeral and buried as a human , " Kabore said.
