NASA surveyed the installation of space satellite center in Ho Chi Minh City

NASA is surveying Southeast Asia to choose the location of the space satellite center under the NASA SERVIR (Regional Image Monitoring and Integration System) program (USAID). HCM City, Vietnam Hi-tech Park is one of NASA's choices.

It was informed that Michael F.O'Brien, deputy director of international relations and inter-agency relations of the US National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA), told the meeting. Working with Ho Chi Minh City Hi-tech Park Management Board (SHTP) on the afternoon of December 6.

According to Mr. Michael, SERVIR has two space satellite centers located in Latin America - Caribbean and Kenya, currently USAID is choosing the location to deploy a third center in Southeast Asia.

NASA asked Vietnam to pay attention to USAID requirements such as technical infrastructure availability, human resources capable of taking satellite data, analyzing and processing images because there will be fierce competition between countries want to be chosen by NASA. The official decision will be made by NASA in the next year.

Dr. Pham Anh Tuan, director of the National Satellite Technology Center, said Vietnam will establish two space satellite centers.

The center in Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park, Hanoi will cooperate with Japan to assemble and build small satellites. Ho Chi Minh City's hi-tech park will be a satellite image data center.
