More than 600 million USD built Vietnam Space Center
At the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the Space Technology Institute - Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology held on November 16 in Hanoi, Dr. Doan Minh Chung, Director of the Space Technology Institute said the project was built The Vietnam Space Center will be invested with a cost of over 600 million USD.
This project will be implemented soon and is expected to be completed in 2018.
Vietnam Space Center has an area of 9ha, built in Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park, Hanoi, where research and production of small satellites serve the needs of weather forecasting, monitoring and exploration. , radio-television broadcasting, search and rescue . in the country.
The project has been assigned by the Government to the Vietnam Institute of Science and Technology for implementation with the support of Japanese design and construction.
In September 2011, Vietnam Satellite Center, a unit under the Vietnam Institute of Science and Technology, was established. This is the unit with the function of receiving, managing and implementing the construction project of Vietnam Space Center.

In the specific cooperation program, the Institute of Space Technology (STI) in collaboration with the Japan Aerospace Agency (JAXA) performs three key tasks including the construction of technical infrastructure and existing facilities. great; Technology transfer of two small satellites to observe the earth with Vietnam's own high-resolution, high-resolution radar sensors for natural disaster monitoring and environmental resource management and image data application satellite; Training human resources (gathering about 350 experts, researchers, managers .) and advanced technology capabilities transferred from Japan.
After the project is completed, Vietnam will have a leading modern space science research, training and technology development center in Southeast Asia.
Through the project, according to Japanese experts, Vietnam can reduce 10% of the damage caused by natural disasters.
In addition, Vietnam will also be able to design and manufacture small satellites to observe the world's advanced high-resolution Earth.
For the prospect of cooperation between Japan and Vietnam in the field of space technology, Mr. Tetsuo Tanaka, Director of JAXA's International Cooperation Department, said that the two countries have potential for long-term cooperation in the fields. remote sensing and application, development of small satellite technology, capacity building and research cooperation based on the ability to use international space stations.
In the role of the leading agency on space technology research and development in Vietnam, the Institute of Space Technology has actively cooperated in projects to improve the capacity of space technology development by the Government. Japanese government funded as SAFE Project - Application of remote sensing technology in environmental monitoring, Asia-Pacific satellite program.
During the 5 years of establishment of the Institute (2006-2011), the staff of the Institute of Space Technology has well performed the functions and tasks of the unit, rose to become one of the leading specialized institutes. of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
With the specific goal by 2020, the small satellite technology will be mastered to observe the Earth; By 2030, it is possible to design and manufacture small satellites to observe the Earth, the collective of the Institute of Space Technology is striving to constantly strive to bring space technology to become an effective tool in resource management. nature, environment, territory and natural disasters, reaching the same size as the leading research institutes of space technology in the region.
On this occasion, the Institute of Space Technology organized a Scientific Conference on "Research and development of space technology - 2011."
At the workshop, delegates heard a number of reports and presentations with key contents such as predicting satellite position observing the Earth by combining multi-sensor data; Measuring high satellites in studying the East Sea geological structure of Vietnam; Application of remote sensing technology contributes to building a sea-island database for security and defense work.
