NASA tests space observation aircraft
According to US space agency officials, NASA will test a modified Boeing 747 aircraft to observe the universe while flying. The aircraft was taken to NASA's aerospace research center at Edwards Air Force Base (California).
The Boeing 747SP is equipped with a state-of-the-art system to accomplish this mission that will undergo testing for 3 years. The aircraft has been installed a German infrared telescope with a diameter of 2.5m and has been modified structure a few years ago.
The Boeing 747SP will go into operation around 2010. During the operation period expected to last about 20 years, the aircraft is likely to become one of the "great observatories" of the natural science industry. The text helps astronomers access to the naked eye, infrared and submilimetric radio spectrum.
