NASA unfolds the secret of aurora phenomenon

On January 17, US Space Agency NASA announced an ambitious program: to launch five satellites on February 15 to uncover the secret of aurora.

'This is an ambitious project to explain the mechanism of dim light, evidence of the presence of the Earth's magnetic layer protecting us from the lethal effects of the solar wind'. , Mr. Frank Snow, in charge of the mission named THEMIS said.

THEMIS satellites are designed to determine the time, location and cause of the flow of solar particles accumulating in the magnetic field of the Earth's atmosphere released, causing electronic rain and creating colorful light scenes sharp.

According to Vassilis Angelopoulos, this two-year project will allow the opening of a new era to understand the nature of interactions between the Sun and Earth.

THEMIS project with the participation of NASA scientists and the University of California worth $ 200 million. 5 satellites will be launched from the Cap Canaveral space base in Florida state, on a Delta II rocket.
