New casting method uses polyurethane

Currently, difficulties with thermoplastic in the rotational casting method have been overcome by a new rotary casting method, which uses polyurethane instead of other materials.

The current plastic spinning method is carried out at high temperatures to keep the thermoplastic viscosity low enough for proper distribution in the mold. This is an energy-intensive method, the longer rotation time significantly increases the cost.

Peter Orywol, Bayer's polyurethane specialist, said using polyurethane is a technological improvement that brings many benefits. Two-component liquid mixes can be easily distributed into molds at room temperature and react at relatively low temperatures. Therefore, this method significantly reduces the energy consumption required for production and the time of rotation.

All properties of polyurethane such as hardness, impact resistance and elasticity can be adjusted precisely by the choice of polyurethane components, without the need for additional plasticizers.

Polyurethane is also stiffer than thermoplastic agents with the same thickness, better abrasion and item resistance, high heat resistance and excellent adhesion. Some products can be used at temperatures up to 180oC.
