Discovered two stone bronze casting molds dating back more than 2,000 years

Mr. Ly Kim Khoa - Deputy Director of Yen Bai Provincial Museum said that the Provincial Museum is storing two stone axes and ancient copper chisels of the Dong Son Culture period dating back about 2,000-3,000 years ago.

Ax mold has body 8.1cm long; 5.1cm wide; 2cm thick; weighs 120 grams. Chisel mold has 11.2 cm long body; 5.6cm wide; 3.2cm thick; heavy 360gam.

At the beginning of March 2016, Nong Van Thanh's father and son released nets to catch fish on the Red River, to the landslide section running through Dong An commune, Van Yen district. While looking for stones to build anchors, Mr. Thanh discovered two pieces of stone with strange shapes, so he sent them to the Yen Bai Museum of Cultural Heritage.

The members of Yen Bai Museum's heritage and collaborating with the experts of Vietnam Archaeological Institute to evaluate and determine the original two pieces of stone with strange shape as the ax and chiseled casting of the period Dong Son culture, dating back about 2,000-3,000 years. It is a testament to the artisans belonging to the Hung Vuong era who produced all kinds of tools on Yen Bai land.

The Red River flows through Yen Bai province, over 115km long. Since the 1960s of the twentieth century, people and authorities have discovered on thousands of relics of Dong Son Cultural era by the banks of river banks or people working to reveal. Relics include bronze coins, copper drums, production utensils; living utensils, warrior weapons and other kinds of jewelry .

Scientists judged that Dao Thinh bronze coin, the Hop Minh bronze coin discovered in Yen Bai is the biggest and most beautiful bronze jars in Vietnam today.
