Huge gigantic discovery near Stonehenge stone circle

The researchers discovered the remains of a giant stone building dating back to 4,500 years, buried under a thick soil three kilometers from Stonehenge.

Stonehenge is a monument of megalithic monuments in Wiltshire, Salisbury, England consisting of earthen fortifications surrounding a stone circle. According to archaeologists, these stone pillars were erected from 2500-2000 BC. The surrounding land rings could be built earlier, from 3100 BC.

Located not far from Stonehenge is the newly discovered monument, consisting of a massive 90-block rock massif, forming part of the Neolithic C-shaped monument, adjacent to a dry valley and facing the river Avon.

The researchers used ground-penetrating radar to photograph 30 intact rocks of 4.5m high. Fragments of the other 60 buried rocks and giant excavations at their feet reveal the full size of the building. The team thinks that the blocks were pulled into position more than 4,500 years ago.

Photographs of rocks show that they are horizontal. However, according to Professor Vince Gaffney, archaeologist headed by Stonehenge Hidden Landscape project, at first they lined up and were dumped by new stoneworkers when rebuilding the area. These horizontal rocks were buried beneath the shore, and became part of the southern boundary of the large stone wall called Durrington Walls .

With a perimeter of 1.6 km, Durrington Walls is among the largest stone walls ever. It is surrounded by a moat and a meter-tall, 40-meter-wide shore. Inside this stone circle are smaller wooden fences and circles.

The Stonehenge Hidden Landscape project has changed the way archaeologists consider ancient buildings spanning more than 6,400 square meters on the Salisbury plains. The main monument is located in the center of the land with many burial sites, digging pits and churches. Last year, researchers discovered the remains of 17 churches and hundreds of other archaeological sites scattered throughout the region.

The birth and death of the newly discovered building in Durrington Walls shows that the site has been remodeled and reused since the ancient people put the first stone blocks in 3100 BC.

Paul Garwood, a leading archaeologist and historian at the University of Birmingham, said the new findings in Durrington Walls profoundly changed researchers' understanding of Stonehenge and the surrounding area."All previous records of Stonehenge and ancient buildings in the area need to be rewritten , " Garwood said.
