Discover the ancient city dating back to 5,000 years in Israel

On October 6, the Israeli Antiquities Department announced that archaeologists in Israel had discovered a large city dating back 5,000 years along with temples and fortifications in the central region.

Archaeologists discovered the old city, located on an area of 650,000 square meters in an excavation site in the Sharon region, near the new city Harish. A large metropolitan area was planned from the end of the 4th millennium BC (BC) in the Bronze Age along with residential areas, public areas, streets and alleys. The city is surrounded by fortifications about 20 meters long and 2 meters high.

In the public area of the city, archaeologists discovered an impressive temple with rare statues of human and animal faces. There were also scorched animal bones in a stone basin in the temple, which scientists thought was evidence of a sacrificial ritual.

The excavation process also helped discover 4 million pieces of pottery, flint tools, volcanic stone . and some tools from ancient Egypt. An estimated 6,000 people once lived in this ancient city, earning a living by farming, maintaining trade and cultural relations with various regions and kingdoms in the region. The city was abandoned in the third century BC for unknown reasons.

Archaeologists call this a major discovery in this area during the Bronze Age. They considered the city to be a 'first step in the process of urbanization' of the Canaanite culture at that time. The findings for the first time allowed scientists to identify the ancient cultural features of the region and the remaining traces of an organized society.
