Petra old city (Jordanie)

In the middle of a rocky setting in the south of the Dead Sea, this ancient city of Arabia used to be the Kingdom Capital of the Nabatènes (4th century BC). Built at the intersection of two lanes of camel convoys, it became an important center in the trade of Arabia incense, Indian spices, Chinese silk, Egyptian gold, ivory and Nibia slaves.

From the 1st century BC to the 1st century BC, Petra was a prosperous time and was the first time to build the first buildings. Having been annexed to the Roman Empire in 106 AD, Petra also experienced a period of splendor until the development of other trading routes struck a critical blow to its economy. Later, Christians came to live in the city and the crusaders built up the strongholds that we can still see today.People came to Petra through a narrow 2km long ravine : the temple, the mausoleum and the palace were hewn in the pink sandstone cliffs, creating a wonderful scenery that blended the Eastern traditions with the Hy style. At present, atmospheric conditions and erosion are damaging this site. Experts have come to research on the causes of degenerated ice making and a photographic survey has been conducted. The World Heritage Protection Committee recently funded the Jordanian government to preserve Petra and restore the Palace of the Palace. Petra was listed in the World Heritage List in 1985.
