New detection of vision
American scientists at Johns Hopkins University have discovered the more important role of a cell type in the retina called ipRGC - a type of atypical optical cells in the retina - which helps detect contrast between light and Dark, is considered a key element of visual visualization, in a study published in the journal Neuron.

In the mouse experiment, the team discovered the role of ipRGC. The key point of the new discovery is the expression of ipRGC melanopsin - light-sensitive pigment that undergoes chemical changes when absorbed by light.
Scientists have known for a long time that two types of optical and cone-shaped optical cells in the retina , activated under different light environments for visual control. ipRGC, or internal light-sensitive retinal ganglion cells, have been discovered in the last decade.
However, at that time it was thought that the ipRGC was primarily needed to detect light without depending on the image function.
This time, the experiment shows that the mouse recognizes the contrast of images in a Y-shaped mess of mice that detect the edges of the landscape when fleeing. Mice with melanopsin genes were more sensitive to the contrast than mice lacking melanopsin. The team concluded that ipRGC and melanopsin are related to imaging function and this finding has important implications for the treatment of eye disease.
