New treatment for liver cancer patients
Chemotherapy is a method to quickly kill cells that grow as fast as cancer cells, but this method also adversely affects other healthy parts of the body.
The reason is that chemotherapy drugs are often injected directly into the vein, so it not only affects the tumor but also affects the whole body. Consequently, patients will experience fatigue, weakness, hair loss and loss of fertility. However, doctors at Southampton General Hospital (UK) said that only using this method affects an organ on the body will be able to limit the side effects of the drug.
There are currently 2 cancer patients in the UK testing this new treatment. Both suffer from a rare eye cancer, which then spreads to the liver.
After 3 months of treatment with the above method, the health of these two patients all progressed well, especially, the malignant tumors in their liver seemed to have shrunk.
Dr. Stedman, a radiologist, said: 'The organs can be easily removed from the blood vessels, such as the kidneys, lungs, and pancreas.
However, he said this is only the first stage of this treatment and he does not guarantee that this method will help cure cancer completely.
