NUS successfully built drone carrying Snowstorm
A group of eight Singapore National University students (NUS) have successfully built a drone (Snowmobile) named Snowstorm that can carry one person.
Successfully built drone can carry people
Snowstorm is made of polished aluminum alloy, with 24 rotor motors of 76cm diameter and 2.2kW. The driver's position is placed in the middle of the drone, supported by six landing legs, attached to six balloons that are pumped to absorb the impact force. Snowtorm has three rechargeable lithium batteries with a total capacity of 52.8kW.
Snowstorm's flight control system allows users to accelerate, up and down, fly in circles. Especially, this drone also offers the same auto-driving modes as keeping the altitude, flying is ...
According to the current design, Snowstorm can only carry a maximum weight of about 70kg in 5 minutes.
This special machine took more than a year to complete, with the support of FrogWorks, an organization created by the collaboration between the NUS Engineering Center Program Program and the Student Program Talent (USP), according to the NUS website. FrogWorks encourages students to participate in the research, design and construction of entertainment equipment, green technology products.
"NUS 'Snowstorm shows that personal flying equipment is a real possibility in the future, helping us to achieve a dream of flying in a fun, exciting way," said Joerg Weigl .
However, Snowstorm still need to adjust a lot, because the current drone is not really safe because there is no protection for the driver. In addition, the team aims to build the drone in a way that can be easily dismantled and transported.
