The first snowstorm in the US pulled the temperature down to a record low

The first snowstorm of 2014 not only crippled many activities of nearly half of US territory in the past few days but also killed at least 11 people.

According to a reporter in Washington, as of January 4, snow has stopped falling, but temperatures in many northeastern US states continue to drop to record levels, somewhere up to -30 or -35 degrees Celsius, with bitter wind cut the flesh. Forecast of severe weather conditions can last for next week.

According to the National Weather Service, about 140 million people in at least 20 US states are affected by snow storms, forcing states in some states such as New Jersey, New York and Minnesota to declare their state of emergency. At the same time, it is recommended that people do not leave the house.

In some parts of the Northeast of the United States, such as New York and Massachusetts, there is a place where the amount of snow falls 1m thick.

By January 4, snow storms had killed at least 13 people, of whom 11 died from traffic accidents. On January 3, about 3,500 flights nationwide were canceled. More than 6,000 flights were delayed on January 4.

Millions of people in many states have to live in long-term blackouts because the power lines are blown by snowstorms or broken. Blizzard has forced some states to notify students to extend their school holidays to early next week.
