Official Google Gmail
The German court has ruled that Google cannot continue to call its e-mail service, Gmail, on the grounds that it "coincides" with a brand already in Germany.
Before the Hanseatic Higher Court ruling, the search giant expressed "regret". However, Google affirmed that the email service will still operate normally in Germany in particular and around the world in general.
" The Gmail brand has been registered with the European Commission and will still be allowed for normal use outside the borders of Germany and England, " the Google representative said.
Google's own email service, launched in 2004 and the Gmail brand, has so far been registered for protection in more than 60 countries.
Gmail has been in Germany since 2005, but it soon hit a lawsuit filed by a man named Daniel Giersch. 33 years old, Daniel is a local entrepreneur.
He has registered to own the "G-mail" brand in Germany since 2000, and said Google's Gmail name "seriously violated" its brand.
After Giersch's case, Google continued to face a series of Gmail-related disputes in Spain, Portugal and Switzerland.
