The new generation optical disks can store 1 to 2 terabytes of data, equivalent to 1,000 to 2,000 encyclopedia volumes, providing comprehensive storage solutions for small and medium businesses, according to researchers. of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland (USA).
A terabyte of 1,024 gigabytes, which can contain 217 Blu-ray Discs that last up to two hours.
This disc format is designed to write data on dozens of layers, not two or four layers like the current Blu-ray disc, according to R & D Magazine.
Experts hope the new optical disk can be used extensively for data storage just like the magnetic disk, only to save money and help users access information faster than older discs.
