Raising ostriches towards economic development prospects
Called 'special' pets because before Mr. Luong in Hoa Binh no one raised ostriches. Recalling the first day of shaking hands with ostriches, Mr. Luong shared: 'Mobilizing my wife and children to agree to invest in buying ostriches of the same day but bringing them back, the neighbors came to see them very much. Many people shook their heads because 'just saw it on television'. I am even more determined to raise ostriches'.
Before that, with his hardworking and hard working nature, Mr. Luong always wondered one thing, even though he was attached to many jobs, his family's economy still faced many difficulties.
Accidentally once read Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper, seeing the introduction of ostrich farming model successfully in some localities like Thanh Hoa, Hanoi, Ha Nam, Mr. Luong was quickly attracted.
After spending a lot of time to study the biological characteristics, growth characteristics and experience of raising ostriches in books and newspapers, in early 2010, Mr. Luong scarf went to Thien Lan ostrich farm (Vinh Loc, Thanh Chemistry) to find out and decide to invest in breeding animals for 5 million VND / pair.
After bringing the breed to the breeding house, Mr. Luong also regularly returned to the farm to continue learning about how to care, techniques for prevention and treatment for ostriches.
According to Mr. Luong, from the initial positive results, next time his family will continue to sell ostriches to turn around capital, invest to expand the herd.
Thanks to the hard care of the process provided by the ostrich farm technician, Mr. Luong's ostrich grows quite well and is not sick. Realizing the prospect of new livestock, at the end of 2010, Mr. Luong invested in another pair of ostrich breeds. So far, Mr. Luong's family ostrich has developed up to 10 large and small children.
According to our observations, the ostrich barn area is designed by Mr. Luong quite simply. In addition to a construction of eucalyptus and bamboo, bamboo mat is a relatively spacious grazing area that is firmly fenced by a bamboo pole system of about 1.5 - 2 m in combination with various nets. because when growing to about 30 kg, ostriches mainly run outdoors.
According to Mr. Luong's experience, due to being a new type of wild animal, the first time, ostrich is quite shy. In addition to the large initial investment capital, the cost of raising ostriches is not as expensive as other livestock because its main food is vegetables, grass, corn, sweet potato, cassava, and paddy . not buying expensive industrial bran. money.
Moreover, the farm does not lose much because in fact, every day Mr. Luong only spends about 2 hours to take care of ostriches. On the other hand, ostriches are wild animals, so they have good resistance, heat resistance, cold resistance and very little epidemic. If taking care of the right process and ensuring good nutrition, ostriches after raising for 12-14 months can be sold with an average weight of over 1 quintal for males and about 90-95 kg for children.
Understanding that, the market demand for ostrich meat is quite large and stable. In Hoa Binh, ostrich meat is being purchased at a relatively high price for processing specialty dishes in restaurants and hotels. Particularly in 2014, with the sale of 2 commercial ostriches, Mr. Luong's family collected nearly VND 50 million.
