Pangolin gives birth after being rescued

Two Javan pangolins rescued by the authorities and brought to the Vinpearl River Safari Nam Hoi An Animal Rescue Center for care have given birth.

Vinpearl River Safari Nam Hoi An animal rescue center (VinWonders Nam Hoi An) said that these are two pangolins received from Nam Giang District Police (August 2022) and Tien Phuoc District Forest Ranger Department (August 2022). December 2023). Both children were cared for and gave birth in late January 2023 and mid-May 2024, respectively.

When received, the two pangolins were in poor health due to being caught in traps and being trafficked and transported in harsh conditions. The center's veterinarians treated the wound and checked the nutritional status. Their diet is tailored to their nutritional needs, including insects and necessary supplements.

The two pangolins were then allowed to live in a simulated natural environment, with elements such as soil, plants and hiding places to make them feel safe and comfortable. Pangolins are continuously monitored by the care team and have regular health checks.

Vinpearl River Safari Nam Hoi An animal rescue center said that after taking care of the adult pangolin, the center will coordinate with the authorities of Quang Nam province to release these two pairs of mother and child pangolins back into the environment. nature.

Javan pangolin - Manis Javanica belongs to Group IB of endangered, rare and threatened animals. Pangolins are on the list of endangered and rare species protected at the highest level by Vietnamese law. This animal has hard scales to protect its body, a sticky tongue and can shoot up to 40 cm long to eat ants or termites. When threatened, pangolins have the ability to curl their body up like a ball. They are hunted for their scales and meat.
