Specifically, the plan proposes the construction of a brand new 4.5-kilometer aerial tramway, connecting suburbs in the southeast with the Paris Metro. The plan is being pushed to try to get the construction underway, which is expected to begin this year.

Scheduled to open in 2025, the 'Cable 1' project will travel from the Paris suburb of Villeneuve-Saint-Georges to the Pointe du Lac station in Creteil in the Île-de-France region in just a few minutes. round 17 minutes. If traveling by bus, passengers will take nearly 40 minutes by car.

Design proposals for the cable car, directed by architectural studio Atelier Schall have just been released, providing a deeper look at the anticipated project.

Cable 1 (C1) has an estimated construction and commissioning cost of EUR 132 million (approximately $145 million) and is expected to serve approximately 11,000 people per day, with just 30 seconds between cabins at peak times. point. Each cable cabin will have a capacity of about 10 passengers.

While French cities like Brest and Grenoble already have similar cable car systems, Cable 1 will be the first for Paris if it is adopted. However, several other proposed aerial tramways are also currently in various stages of development.

First proposed in 2008, Cable 1 was deemed necessary due to Creteil's mountainous terrain, which also has high-speed rail and motorways, making it difficult for ground-based systems to be introduced. reality.

To build the system, 33 white towers, designed to 'merge harmoniously' with the landscape, will be placed along the suburbs.

The proposal of the team led by Doppelmayr France over the next four years will help more than 11,000 people a day, saving a lot of time, adding comfort and convenience to sightseeing.

Cable 1 will serve a total of 5 stops, Temps Durables and Emile Combes in Limeil-Brévannes, Emile Zola in Valenton and Bois Matar in Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, with terminus at Pointe du Lac in Créteil, located a short distance from the tram line underground number 8 a short.

Each terminal will be only one floor high to ensure a '100% accessible' system for passengers. Paris is not the only European city with a cable car system. Last year, Amsterdam gave the green light for a 1.5km cable car line to come into operation in 2025, which will cross the IJ river, connecting Amsterdam-West and Amsterdam-Noord.
