Pilots can replace pilots

The PiBot robot is designed to fly without help, and can operate in areas that are too dangerous for humans.

Researchers at the Korea Institute of Advanced Technology have developed a robot called PiBot that can automatically start an aircraft engine, control a runway, take off, land and navigate. Mechanics yesterday reported.

The most striking feature of the Pibot is that it does not require any modifications to the standard airplane models. PIBOT can operate the joystick together with all switches and levers in the conventional cockpit. The ability to fly a standard aircraft gives PiBot a great advantage over other autopilot technologies that require modifications to the control system of the aircraft.

Pilot can fly successfully in 80% of tests, relatively high rate compared with robots but not meet the actual flight requirements. The robot is practicing more on a simulation device

The team hopes to use PiBot to fly in dangerous areas and replace humans in the future.
