Plants glow to report lack of water
Plants are fluorescent due to gene grafting ( artwork from foreign websites )
Students at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, have created a new crop that can "light up" when watering - a very beneficial method for farmers.
Recently, a group of engineering students at Nanyang Polytechnic University, Singapore, said they have created a plant that can signal people when they need to water.
Students said they used genetic engineering with plants by using a fluorescent gene that glows green from jellyfish. Therefore, the tree will "glow" when dehydrated.
The development of this grafted tree can help farmers to water more timely and effectively for their crops.
