Pluto has a new name: Plutoid

Pluto, downgraded from the 2006 planetary position, had a consolation reward yesterday - it and the same tiny planets will be called plutoid collectively.

The International Astronomical Association said the meeting of the executive committee in Oslo, Norway, decided on the term.

Plutids are identified as bodies located in orbit around the sun, but farther away than Neptune (the farthest planet of the current solar system). They must be almost spherical in shape, and must not drag other smaller objects in their orbit.

So far, two plutoid has been identified as Pluto and Eris, but astronomers hope to find more.

Other tiny planets, Ceres, are inconsistent with the plutoid definition because they are in the meteorite belt between Mars and Jupiter.

The solar system, calculated from the inside out, includes the following planets: Glass - Venus - Earth - Mars - Jupiter - Saturn - Uranus - Hai Vuong Tinh.
