The incident happened last weekend at a restaurant in Foshan City (Guangdong Province, China), when the chef named Peng Fan was preparing a special dish made of Indochinese cobra meat.

After cutting off the snake's head to prepare the dish, while carrying the head to carry it into the trash, Peng Fan accidentally got bitten by the head, causing the chef to die soon after. It is known that the snake was beheaded 20 minutes earlier.

Lin Sun, a witness present at the restaurant, said he and his wife Su had heard the chef shout when he was bitten.

'We were at the restaurant to have dinner for my wife's birthday party, when I suddenly heard a lot of buzzing around. We don't know what happened, but we can hear loud screams from the kitchen , 'Lin Sun said. 'The doctor was called but it seems the victim died from before. After hearing the incident, we were unable to continue our meal. '

Police said Peng had died before being vaccinated with antitoxin at the hospital. The victims of Indochinese cobra bite often die quickly because of asphyxiation because the snake's nerve toxin paralyzes their respiratory system.

'This is a very rare case and it seems that this is just an accident. The victim had a very severe reaction to the bite , 'a police spokesman said. 'Nothing can save the victim in this case. Only anti-toxic serum can save him, but we don't have enough time. '

Yang Hong Chang, a snake expert, who has spent 40 years researching cobra, said all reptiles can still work for more than an hour after losing part or even part. Only the whole body and only the head left.

'It is possible that the snake's head is still alive and bites Peng's hand , ' Yang said. ' When the snake loses its head, basically the body's functions have ended, but there are still some reflexes that follow nature'.

"This means that the snake can bite and inject venom even after being beheaded ," Yang added.

Indochinese cobra is widely distributed in Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar. Currently, the number of these snakes has been severely reduced because of catching. The flesh of this snake is processed into a dish, while the skin is used for expensive fashion products.
