Sony has officially confirmed that the European version of the PlayStation 3 (PS3) will run fewer PlayStation 2 games (PS2) than the version released in the US and Japan.
The company said the PS3 version for the European market has some differences from PS3s in other markets because it uses software to replace some of the functions of dedicated processor chips.
According to Sony, PS3 and US machines run about 98% of their PS2 games.
Sony's latest statement includes: ' Instead of focusing on making the PS3 compatible with the PS2, the company will enhance game development and new entertainment features for the PS3. '
Information made European players disappointed while the PS3 will not be released at the 'former continent' before March 23, which is four months later than in the US and Japan.
Sony is expected to have about 1 million PS3s to gamers in this 3rd release.
