Rare scorpion detection in Vietnam

Dr Pham Dinh Sac, Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) and PhD. Wilson Lourenco (Paris - France Museum of Natural History) has discovered a new scorpion species at Thien Duong cave, belonging to the National Park (Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park (Quang Binh).

New rare scorpion species discovered in Vietnam

Dr. Pham Dinh Sac, said, this scorpion species has the scientific name Vietbocap thienduongensis Lourenco & Pham, 2012. The Vietnamese name is Thien Duong scorpion (discovered in Thien Duong cave). Previously, in 2010, Dr. Pham Dinh Sac and some other scientists discovered another scorpion species in Tien Son cave also belonging to Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park.

Both of these scorpion species are classified as rare in the world. These are specialized species, adapted to living conditions in caves.
