Discover new scorpion species in Quang Tri

Scientists have just announced a new scorpion in the nature reserve in Quang Tri province.

The new species has the scientific name of Euscorpiops drong Lourenco & Pham , collected by Vietnamese and French scientists from the cave in Dakrong Nature Reserve, Dakrong district, Quang Tri province.

According to information from the Academy of Science and Technology, scorpions are golden brown with many dark brown spots. Adult males are 27mm long, and females are 25mm long. They are distinguished from other Euscorpiops-like species because of their smaller body size, lighter dorsal color .

New discoveries about scorpions are not only meaningful in science but also have high practical value. Scorpion venom is a potential natural ingredient for the pharmaceutical industry.
