Real brings Windows Media to Linux
Real has announced that it will support the standard Windows Media format in its open source software for Linux, the result of a copyright settlement in the table signed with Microsoft last October.
Helix Player developed by Real.
Previously, support for Microsoft audio and video formats was only available in closed source modules. This new format support feature will be integrated into Helix player, a media player from Real. Created in coins
The direction of 'infiltrating' Real Linux's open source world is to expand its market share. However, Helix player can only play standard Windows Media files, and files with copyright protection are not possible. Real is also looking at other format standards such as AAC used in iTunes.
The Helix source code can be downloaded here. Developers can develop into applications that can operate on any operating system and can support any media format such as Quicktime or Windows Media.
