In 1895, the Swedish scholar Alfred Bernhard Nobel made a will, stating: the whole fortune he left worth nearly 70 million Swedish kronor will be made into a fund for an annual award named after him, to awarded to "those who, in the previous year, were judged to have made the most practical contribution to humanity".

After AB Nobel died on December 10, 1896, according to his wish, the Nobel Prize Foundation was founded in 1900.

The first Nobel Prize was awarded in 1901.

Nobel Prizes are decided in the middle of October every year and the Medal Ceremony and the check takes place on December 10 with the same year and anniversary.
