According to Dr. Nguyen Thanh Son, Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group, Vietnam still has to rely on fossil fuel sources, with the proportion of electricity production in electricity planning VII to 70.8% is fossil energy, including coal accounting for 46.8% is too big. To reduce the pressure on fossil fuels, Vietnam needs to maximize renewable energy sources, limiting and reducing the development of coal-fired thermal power plants.
By 2020, the hydropower potential in Vietnam has almost been mobilized, while the potential of renewable energies such as wind, solar . is still quite large but lacks technology and capital to generate. development. From that fact, Vietnam Thermal Science and Technology Association proposed that the Government should attach importance to developing renewable energy, considering exploiting available renewable energy sources.
