Restores painting with nano sponge

Italian scientists have published an invention that is important in cleaning and restoring invaluable oil paintings as well as marble sculptures and other artistic works: nano-sponge.

In the article published in the American Chemical Society , scientists say it is possible to use nano sponge to rehabilitate artworks as well as applications in makeup, cleaning and biotechnology.

So far, people often use solvents and cleansing agents in the form of gel to restore artworks. Compared to liquid detergent, gel is less permeable to the surface of the work and causes damage. However, the gel is difficult to collect from the paint surface and may leave a mark on the artwork.

Therefore the use of nano-foam made from micro-nanoparticles is considered a breakthrough study in this area. This porous granule is mixed with solvent and cleaning agent, then put into the soil where it needs to be recovered on the paint surface. After cleaning, the restorer can remove the gel with a magnet easily.
