Reuters, Adobe, and Canon developed counterfeiting techniques
Reuters is cooperating with Adobe and Canon to develop techniques for detecting changes in digital photos compared to the original version.
The information was announced by Reuters CEO Tom Glocer on his personal blog last weekend. " I am very pleased to announce that we are working with Adobe and Canon to develop a solution that allows photo editors to recognize changes in digital photos to ensure image accuracy ", speech of Tom Glocer.
The photo of the Beirut battlefield that Reuters freelance reporter had voluntarily corrected
The reason for this cooperation was because earlier this year, a freelance reporter of the company had voluntarily edited a photo taken in the battlefield of Beirut (adding "smoke" to the photo to effect the bomb devastating. The city looks more fierce). Reuters fired the reporter after an internal investigation confirmed the case.
Also according to Mr. Tom Glocer, the new technique aims to guarantee the truthfulness as well as the true origin of the photos, avoiding the case of "directing images". In addition, earlier this month, Reuters signed an agreement with Yahoo to allow users to upload photos to shared sites Flickr could add its own identities to transfer to Reuters.
