American researchers have found a relic that could be an intact catacomb in the Valley of the Kings - the first of its kind found here since the discovery of Tutankhamun in 1922.

The tomb contains 5 or 6 mummies, contained in the unmatched sarcophagi from the end of the 18th dynasty, around the same time as Tutankhamun . However, archaeologists have not had time to determine the exact age.

The 18th dynasty ruling Egypt from 1576 to 1320 BC, was the period when the nation's power reached its peak.

The Huang valley in southern Egypt contains parts of most pharaohs, but archaeologists say the mummies of the newly discovered tomb do not belong to the royal family.

" There are many tombs not belonging to the royal family in the valley. Recent tombs are not unique, " one member of the excavation team said. However, the group did not go deep inside. " It is very small and cramped ," she added.

5 cups, carved in human form, have colorful masks and tombs that contain a lot of large containers. " For an unknown reason, they are quickly buried in this tiny crypt, " said a team from the University of Memphis in the US.

The tomb is located 5 km from the place where Tutankhamun is found, covered by rubble used to be the home of construction workers at the end of the 19th dynasty, more than 100 years after the tomb was closed.
