Robot massage

In the future, face massage machines in use in spas as well as hospitals in Japan can be replaced by robotic arms - the new invention of Waseda University scientists.

On the outside, the WAO-1 robot with 2 steel arms looks more like a recovery device than a robot. Initially, this robot was built to massage the face for patients with jaw problems.

The researchers mounted on the arm of WAO-1 a small ceramic sphere with a golf ball. This sphere will roll on the skin surface according to the motion of the robot arm. 6 sensors mounted on the robot arm will help measure and adjust the pressure on the sphere.

In addition to treating patients, researchers say that WAO-1 can also be applied in many areas, especially in skin beautification in spas and massage rehabilitation.

The robots will be tested in November before being widely used in hospitals and spas.
