European Union officials say a total of seven countries are participating in a robotic pilot project for factory workers.

The goal of the 'robot companion' project , with a $ 6 million fund from the EU, is a machine that can reduce labor trafficking.

Up to 12 research institutes are participating in this research program, to assist workers in performing complex tasks that are difficult to fully automate production processes.

'The robotic bundle of human body is a new type of research in the manufacturing industry,' said Carmen Constantinescu of the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany.

"It provides a" hybrid "approach, with the robot supporting the people, decision makers and perceptions needed ," says Constantinescu.
