The new robot, called Dirt Dog, is a robot developed from vacuum cleaners and floor mats, starting with Roomba (born 4 years ago) and Scooba (introduced last year).
Height 10 cm, Diameter 33 cm, Dirt Dog is similar to Roomba and Scooba, but there is no vacuum cleaner and soft brush like Roomba. Instead, it uses two rigid brushes that swivel around 1,000 turns per minute, much like a miniature road sweeper, to sweep dirt into a bucket inside the robot. This bin is 40% larger than the Roomba.
Irobot is selling the Dirt Dog for $ 130, which is cheaper than Roomba's $ 150-330 price - the best selling vacuum cleaner currently with 2 million units sold.
