Robots help wash dishes
Looking at the bowls stacked in the sink, some well-off sisters used to use the dishwasher instead of rolling. Now a robot developed in Japan can take the job to dirty dishes, housewives do not need to touch.
By the University of Tokyo in collaboration with Panasonic, KARA's hand-held cooking robot has the ability to hold a dish in a sink, and put it in the dishwasher (photo) before pressing the 'start' button. .
To be able to handle fragile glassware, KAR uses data from 18 sensors in the palm of the hand and images from an internal camera to distinguish dish shapes. Its armrest has 3 hinges and moves on the rails, allowing it to hold dishes or kitchenware from any position in the sink.
Panasonic engineers are improving their robots in a more compact way with their arms moving faster so that they can clean the dishes within 5 minutes after the family quit. The product is expected to be available in the market within the next five years. In addition to this robot, Panasonic and the University of Tokyo are also collaborating to create robots that wash clothes.
