Scenes that seem to only exist in science fiction movies appear at sea, shocking netizens

The 74-year-old photographer captured the rare moment with her camera from a boat in the waters near Monterey Bay, California (USA).

According to The People, tourists participating in a recent whale watching trip witnessed a spectacular scene taking place in the waters near Monterey Bay, California (USA).

The humpback whale suddenly emerged from the water.

It reminds people of a giant sea monster suddenly rising from the water, waiting to swallow the people standing on the ship, just like the script of science fiction movies.

However, it was a real incident, when a humpback whale charged towards their ship.

The Telegraph reported that the four-year-old female whale, named Murph, made a spectacular leap out of the water, her huge body towering over a boat full of whale watchers, each with a camera in hand.

In one photo, Murph appears to be just a few feet away from a tour boat. His massive body is almost touching the boat. After his show, Murph flicks his tail and dives back to the surface, leaving a white, foaming trail behind him.

This impressive moment was captured by 74-year-old photographer Jodi Frediani, who was on another boat and had the opportunity to witness this incident. Jodi Frediani, from Santa Cruz, California, was lucky to witness the moment and quickly grabbed her camera to take a picture. After being shared on the media and social networks, the photo left many netizens stunned.

Murph the whale puts on a show in front of a boat full of people.

After spotting a group of humpback whales feeding on anchovies, two whales quickly passed by Frediani's boat. Murph then performed a stunning leap in front of the attentive guests.

Fredani has been swimming with and photographing humpback whales for 18 years, and has previously captured similar scenes in Monterey Bay, including one in 2018 when a humpback whale approached a tour boat.

'Humpback whales are not intentionally threatening to humans. They are very good at navigating around boats that are stationary in the water ,' photographer Frediani told The People.  'I am never scared when I see them up close. Instead, I am in awe and overjoyed by their power and magnificence.'

'Most people scream when a whale suddenly comes close to the boat ,' Frediani said.  'We try to follow the instructions, stay 100 meters away, but the feeding activity is very dynamic and sometimes the whale tries to hide under the boat. Then other whales can suddenly come close.'

Humpback whales can often be spotted in Monterey Bay from April through late December.

Fredian told The People she hopes her photos "inspire people to want to protect humpback whales, their food sources and our oceans."

'Nothing makes me happier than watching and photographing humpback whales feeding,' she added.  'The magical and unexpected sight of their huge heads suddenly shooting up into the sky from the vast ocean always brings me joy.'

According to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, humpback whales can typically be spotted in Monterey Bay from April to late December before they migrate to warmer waters off the coast of Mexico for the winter. Humpback whales typically feed on crustaceans like shrimp or krill and small fish.

The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has listed humpback whales as "endangered" under the Endangered Species Conservation Act of 1970.
