Scientists have figured out the reason for the battery

Recently scientists from the US Department of Energy (DOE) believe they have discovered a mechanism that causes battery capacity to drop, even to prevent it.

Surely anyone using a laptop or smartphone knows that the battery capacity will decrease over time. At the time of purchase, your battery can last all day, but after 2 years the battery will drop even if only half a day has passed. Although this problem is very common, scientists still do not know what the process is causing this phenomenon. Recently scientists from the US Department of Energy (DOE) believe that they have discovered a mechanism that causes battery capacity to drop, even to prevent it.

In conventional li-ion batteries, lithium ions from electrolyte solution move between the two electrodes, creating an electrical current that provides power to the device. Battery capacity is basically the amount of lithium ion moving back and forth between the two electrodes while charging and discharging the battery.

In the study, DOE discovered that the electrode material is often separated, allowing some metal ions (namely Manganese) to move to the opposite polarity, creating a reaction to retain lithium ions. Over time more and more lithium ions are trapped, resulting in a reduced battery capacity, reducing the actual battery life.

Research co-author Daniel Abraham explains: " There is a close relationship between the amount of manganese and the anode (anode) and the amount of lithium retained. Now we can find a way to solve the problem. problem of battery capacity reduction after discovering the above mechanism ".
