Scientists warn of a climate disaster in Russia
Great climate changes are taking place in the north of the Barents Sea, Norwegian scientists said. The researchers' conclusions are published in the journal Natural Climate Change.
The Arctic climate in the region may soon change and become warmer.
According to experts, the Arctic climate in the region may soon change and become warmer, typical for the Atlantic climate system. It is known that the main reason for this situation is the amount of fresh water that the Barents Sea receives during the thawing process is less and less.
The Barents Sea can be divided into two parts with different climatic conditions: the cold north and the more pleasant southern climate. The ecosystem in the north depends on the ice. If the climate cycle is normal, then the ice melts and provides fresh water to the sea, this amount of fresh water will turn into winter ice. Scientists claim that cold water is retreating north due to the pressure of warm water over the Atlantic Ocean.
In addition, a study shows that the warming process in the Barents Sea will be irreversible - in the Arctic a "hot spot" has been formed and climate change has a very negative impact on the marine ecosystem.
