See the most intact skeleton of human ancestors

On July 12, South African scientists said they had discovered an almost intact skeleton of the Southern ape, considered to be the closest relative to human ancestors.

Although found in an archaeological excavation site three years ago, this skeleton has only recently been discovered due to being buried in a rock.

According to paleontologist Lee Berger of the University of Witwatersrand, the skeleton found in the archaeological site is called " The Cradle of Humankind", in the southern part of Johannesburg and is considered an intact skeleton. The most integrity of human ancestors was found so far.

The skeleton, named Karabo , belongs to an immature ape, ranging in age from 9-13 years old. Specimens found in a very intact state, including the jawbone, vital parts such as the femur, ribs, vertebrae, and some other limbs.

Karabo was discovered in a state of being buried in a 1 meter wide rock and determined to be around 2 million years old. Despite the characteristics of long arms, small heads and the ability to use accurate and flexible thumbs, scientists still cannot be certain that this Southern ape species has close relatives. or have a direct relationship with human ancestors.

Previously, in 2008, South African scientists also discovered two other skeletons in the archaeological site mentioned above. Archaeologists believe that these gibbons have fallen into a pit and been buried here for millions of years.

The Cradle of Humankind has been recognized as a World Heritage Site and is one of the oldest archaeological sites ever.
